Son of Charles V and nephew of Joan the Mad, Philip of Habsburg was King of Spain as Philip II from 1556 to his death; King of Portugal and Algarve from 1581; then as Philip I from 1554 King of Sicily, Sardinia and Naples. He became Duke of Milan from 1540. He was also King consort of England from 1554 to 1558 without becoming ruler.
